DECOR'04
1ère Conférence Francophone sur le Déploiement et la (Re)Configuration de Logiciels
Maison Jean Kuntzmann (Campus Universitaire de Saint Martin d'Hères)
Conference Scope
Software deployment deals with a set of activities from installation to uninstallation through updating, reconfiguration, activation and disabling of pieces of software. Large scale software deployment requires efficiency and coordination. A well-accomplished deployment allows to singnificantly increase productivity.
Internet growth induced the necessity to be able to deploy client-side applications, through the network, directly from the producer. Since there is a huge amount of client hosts, an automated environment is consequently required in order to both identify and deploy the most appropriate software. One must indeed take into account enterprise organisation aspects that allow defining useable strategies. Also, one must take into account characteristics (software and hardware) of each target machine as well as technical aspects related to the deployment process, at various complexity levels.
Software deployment is becoming one of the major issue in software engineering area, particularly since the emergence of component-based approaches. Although several deployment systems already exist, underlying principles and concepts are just beginning to be investigated.
DECOR'04 aims at offering to the European computing community (researchers, teachers, engineers, industrials and students) a chance to discuss on research and practice in software deployment. It focuses on understanding how an large-scale automated deployment environment can be designed, where deployment applies to any kind of software: legacy applications, component-based applications, operating systems, …
