Energy consumption models for OOK transmitter based on minimum energy coding

Résumé

Considering the inferior performance of Minimum Energy coding (ME-coding) On-Off Keying (OOK) in the BER analysis, so the transmission energy consumption reduced. Actually the increased numbers of low-bit by ME-coding add more energy consumption in the circuit level. Our main objective in this paper is to find a system model which can minimize the total energy consumption at the transmitter when using ME-coding scheme. And we present two energy models with a specific circuit (MAX1472) for a general Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) communication link between two sensor nodes. The simulation result with the first model demonstrates that the total energy consumption is smaller than the classic model in the same source coding method. The second model with MAX1472 shutdown mode brings the half decreasing of the total energy consumption of the first model. Beside ME-coding OOK is more effective in energy consumption when the source coding size k becomes larger.
