Miniaturized optical microwave source based on simultaneous single-mode laser oscillations in Er:ZBLALiP whispering-gallery-mode resonator

Résumé

The coupling by two half tapers on the same micro-spherical resonator in Er:ZBLALiP allows two independent single mode laser emissions to be obtained simultaneously. We study the emission characteristics and the resulting beat note signal. By changing the relative position of the tapers with respect to the sphere we can obtain a spectral interval between the two emissions reduced to few gigahertz. We have observed the generation of a narrow linewidth (22 kHz) microwave signal at 10.86 GHz using this kind of dual-wavelength single mode WGM free running laser.
