Examen du modèle d’ampoule de E. Yoffe

Abstract : We focus our attention on the non-orthodox plasticity field (in the sense of non-isovolumic, Yoffe 1982, Philos. Mag. 40, 617-628) obtained during a low level of indentation testing on a glass and showing an affected zone shaped like a blister. Yoffe (1982) has given us a pragmatic and analytical approach for this loading where the stress is described like an equivalent elastic field which is superposed with the Boussinesq’sfield given basically by the study for a point load perpendicularly applied on the flat surface of a semi-infinite half-space. Quoting with relevance Love (1920, A Treatise On The Mathematical Theory of Elasticity, edited by C.U.P. 3ème ed.), Yoffe advises us in the coupled use of a symmetrical centre of pressure with a double force. Further to Buisson et al. (2008, Matériaux & Techniques 96, 11-17); Tamarasselvame et al. (2009, 12th Int. Conf. On Fracture, ICF12, Vol. 5, pp. 3377-3386) and especially the recent results of Sellapan et al. (2013, Acta Materiala 61, 5949-5965) and Rouxel et al. (2014, C.R. Mécanique 342, 46-51), our work takes a parallel action with Tamarasselvame & Buisson (2011, 20ème Congrès Français de Mécanique, s24., Vol. s42, pp. 3447-3452) and Tamarasselvame & Buisson (2014, submitted) in the sense that we contribute to an additional gradient-term enriching the theory of elasticity. Elaboratly, we give new results dealing with the influence of Poisson’s coefficient on densification phenomena and shearing during indentation; we use the experimental data of Sellapan et al. (2013, Acta Materiala 61, 5949-5965) to illustrate this work.
