Frequency reconfigurable multiband planar antenna with wide tuning frequency range

Résumé

In this paper, a frequency reconfigurable triband antenna was designed for multi-standards wireless applications. The reference antenna was optimized to radiate at F1=2.45 GHz. Then, we integrated a lumped capacitor and a varactor diode in two opposite corners of the square patch. Depending on the reverse bias voltage V applied to the varactor diode, both generated resonant frequencies F2 and F3 were electrically controlled. When changing V from 0 to 8v, F2 shifts from 0.64 to 1.42GHz and F3 still changeless. Then, beyond V=8v, F2 disappears and F3 becomes easily reconfigurable, thus enhancing the frequency agility capabilities of the proposed antenna. A wide tuning frequency range from 0.64 to 2.1 GHz was obtained while the operating frequency of the reference antenna F1=2.45 GHz still maintained. A prototype was manufactured and characterized. Related results were presented and discussed. © 2016 European Association of Antennas and Propagation.
