Characterization of Dual-Band Dual-Linearly Polarized Transmitarray Antennas

Abstract

Experimental results of dual-band transmitarray antennas operating in linear polarization are reported in this paper. The transmitarrays operate in both down-link and up-link for K/Ka-band satellite applications using orthogonal polarizations in each frequency band. The dual-band capability is obtained by interleaving two arrays of single-band unit-cells based on narrow patches and metalized via. Different prototypes are fabricated and measured to validate the performance in each band. A good agreement between theory and measurement is observed. The measured gain reaches 28.4 and 27 dBi at 29.6 GHz and 20 GHz respectively. At up-link, the -3-dB bandwidth is more than 11% around 29 GHz.
