Low Scan Loss Bifocal Ka-band Transparent Transmitarray Antenna

Abstract

A new bifocal design of transparent transmitarray antenna (TTA) is proposed to reach low scan loss at Ka-band (27.5 - 29.5 GHz), using meshed metal unit-cells and transparent substrates (polymethylmethacrylate, PMMA) to allow total integration in dense urban environment. Thanks to the excellent performance of the meshed double-circle rings unit-cell under oblique incidence, wide field of view (+/- 30 degrees) with low scanning loss (lower than 0.53 dB) and low side lobe level (below -17.7 dB) are obtained by moving the feed along the focal plane of the TTA.
