Rapport 19-01. Pérenniser les centres de ressources biologiques : un enjeu majeur pour la recherche biomédicale

Abstract : Biological resource centers (BRC or biobanks) collect, preserve, transform and distribute human biological products for research purposes. BRC are essential infrastructures for the advancement of life sciences and medicine, particularly with the development of large-scale biology, high-throughput technologies and genomics. The French Academy of Medicine recommends to establish a National Steering Committee for BRCs, whose missions include to: define a national strategy for BRC, in cooperation with health care organizations; create a BRC evaluation mechanism; propose a unique funding model, based on the evaluation of the activity and the participation of the BRC in research; and propose legislative and regulatory changes for the use of human biological resources in research.
