Design of a quasi-optical Si/GaAs W-band beam-forming metasurface antenna

Abstract : We propose a Si/GaAs metasurface antenna at W-band frequencies. The antenna operates in a holographic manner; leveraging the guided-mode launched by the input ports and synthesizing a desired radiation wave-front by modulating the guided-mode using a metasurface layer-similar to a hologram. We show the beam-steering capability of the metasurface antenna by switching between the input ports. The simulated reflection coefficient of the antenna is greater than-15 dB with a maximum directivity of 31.9 dBi at 94 GHz. © 2019 IEEE.
