Skilled manpower shortage in microelectronics A challenge for the french education microelectronics network

Résumé

The rapid growth of the Internet of Things associated with the fourth industrial revolution requires more and more connected objects and smart systems. Microelectronics is technically at the very core of all these systems and must therefore contribute to this development. To achieve this, it is necessary to develop highly specialized but also broad spectrum skills and know-how. The industry worldwide observes a shortage of these skills and identifies areas of stressed. The educational world of engineering must therefore respond to this demand and adapt its pedagogical approaches and content. This is the mission of the French microelectronics training network, which focuses on innovation in accordance with the emerging needs. After a presentation of the technical and technological context, industrial needs and examples of innovative approaches taken by the network are presented. © 2019 IEEE.
