Incidence des effectifs par classe sur la réussite scolaire des élèves du réseau d’enseignement secondaire de la Mairie d’Uvira

Abstract : The plethoric classes in Uvira town hall are the consequences of insufficiency of secondary schools in this area compared to its school-age population. Indeed, for a population of 58.660 young people admitted to reach secondary schools in 2018, 174 schools instead of 196 were available. Thus, schools are with more or less 80 students per classroom. In these conditions, teaching becomes difficult or impossible. What about success with these numbers? To answer this question, using linear regression on a sample of 6 schools in the Catholic network, this studyassessed the relationship between these two parameters. The results note a positive correlation between pupil numbers and academic achievement with a standardized coefficient of 0,982 very close to 1. Thus, any increase of a student improves the achievement of 0,96. However, these apparent successes unfortunately do not reflect student performance. Indeed, the high number of successes is due to the weakness of the organization of evaluations as reported by the teachers surveyed. To remedy the situation, the study has proposed the pedagogy of large groups coupled with the organization of leadership tests bringing together inspectors, representatives of parents of pupils and administrators of secondary schools in Uvira Town Hall.
